Net Zero Energy & Passive House - Window to Wall Joint Sealing done differently!

Stefan Goebel (Build Zero Consulting) interviews Andreas Rissmann (Hanno) on how Hanno's expandable multi functional tapes work and can make a difference in buildings.

Windows and doors are some of the weakest materials used in the building envelope (when focusing on the R Value), but they hold great potential for passive solar gain. Careful consideration of the material performance and installation is crucial to leverage the benefits and overcome the weaknesses of the material.

A good water control layer, insulation and acoustic control as well as vapor control depend on the installation and joint sealing between the window and wall. If these details are not solved with the necessary care, shed water and water vapor can cause mold growth and structure to rot, issues that affect indoor air quality, comfort, energy use and building durability immensely. Expandable multi-functional foam tapes hold great potential to conventional material such as caulk, spray foam or flashing tapes. Check out this video from Hanno's factory in Germany.
