At Build Zero Consulting, we believe high-performance homes can demonstrate what is possible when energy efficiency, comfort, durability, and renewable energy are considered together from the beginning. We’re excited to announce that the Brack Home Build in St. Louis, Missouri has officially achieved final Phius ZERO 2024 Certification!

Working alongside the project team, Ryan Abendroth and Stefan Goebel served as the CPHC, guiding the project through the Phius certification process from design certification through final certification.

Going Beyond Passive Building with Phius ZERO

Phius ZERO combines the rigorous building-envelope and energy-efficiency requirements of passive building with renewable energy to move projects toward zero operational carbon.

The Brack Home demonstrates that approach through an all-electric design, an exceptionally airtight building enclosure, high-performance mechanical systems, and a 10.8 kW on-site photovoltaic system. The completed home achieved a tested airtightness of just 0.046 CFM50/ft².

The project's modeled site Energy Use Intensity is 10.09 kBtu/ft²·yr before renewables and -4.53 kBtu/ft²·yr with renewables, demonstrating how a highly efficient building combined with on-site renewable energy can move beyond net-zero modeled site energy performance.

High Performance at the Single-Family Scale

Through careful energy modeling, airtightness detailing, efficient mechanical systems, high-performance windows, and renewable energy, the project significantly reduces its energy demand while creating a comfortable and resilient home.

At Build Zero Consulting, we’re proud to have helped guide the project from design through final certification and to see another Phius ZERO project completed in St. Louis.
